The Ladies’ Scottish Crest Ring is a circular heraldry ring with the Scottish lion emblem on one shoulder and the Scottish thistle on the other. The center will hold your individual Scottish clan motto and shield. The back is solid, creating a slightly heavier feel.

History of Heraldry

Heraldic Imagery and Coats of Arms were developed in the Medieval Ages, as ways for knights to identify themselves on the battlefields. Their sons would then inherit the decorated shields that their fathers’ fought with.  Sometimes they made slight adjustments to the imagery, or combined multiple shield artwork, for new generations.  By the 14th century, heraldic authorities began to form in order to record and preserve the varieties of family coats of arms. In a modern context, a family’s heraldic Coat of Arms has come to be a tool of genealogy. It has helped generations to stay connected for hundreds of years.

In Scottish Tradition, only the Head of the Clan may sport the full clan’s Coat of Arms. Clansmen and clanswomen traditionally sport the crest (the symbol featured at the very top of heraldry) and the clan motto. This solid back ring featured both, with a classic belt encircling the crest and the family motto inscribed on the belt.
