Gold Vermeil (ver-may) is gold plated on high-quality sterling silver. While traditional gold-plated jewelry can be on any base metal and only needs the gold plating to be 0.5 microns thick, Irish-made gold vermeil is at least 10K or more, only plated on sterling silver and the gold plating must be at least 2.5 microns thick (it is typically 3 microns).
