The province of Munster covers the south-western part of Ireland. The famed Brian Boru (from which O’Brians and O’Briens take their surname), one of the High Kings of Ireland, was originally the King of Munster before taking his seat on the Hill of Tara. (So, this tartan works well for the O’Brian / O’Brien families, or anyone hailing from southwestern Ireland).
