A Note on Traditional Ladies’ Tartan Outer Wear:
Scarf: 9.5″ x 58″ – Petite, traditionally worn around the neck.
Sash: 10″ x 90″ – Long and thin, traditionally worn across from shoulder to hip for formal events.
Stole: 18″ x 79″ – Wider and longer than a scarf, traditionally wrapped around the shoulders &/or arms. Also traditionally worn with both ends falling down the front of an ensemble for formal events.
Shawl: 57″ x 57″ – A very wide square, often draped around the shoulders.
Serape: 52″ x 64″ – A large rectangular garment hemmed & shaped so as to lay across the shoulders and fall forward over the arms. Most similar to a traditional ruana.
